Student Member Spotlight!

Student Member of the Quarter is Gwendellyn Muhalia. Gwendellyn is on the design compeition committee this year for her chapter! She graduates from Highline College this quarter - Congratulations Gwendellyn!

How did you become interested in the Kitchen and Bath industry?

As much as it is a focus of interior design, kitchens and bathrooms hold great importance when it comes to the overall function of a house. Designing the spaces that hold such value is interesting.

What have you enjoyed most in school, and what you are seeking in your career path?
I enjoyed learning the design software used for interior design and architecture, especially SketchUp. I seek to learn and understand interior design in all aspects (residential, commercial, hospitality, and so on).

Will you share a little about your background?

I am an international student from Kenya, graduating from Highline College this quarter. I have always loved design and have always put myself in positions to learn new skills in design. Due to my curiosity, I have explored arts and crafts, fine art, digital art and design, 3d modeling, and a little bit of music.

What do you do for fun?

What I like to do for fun usually varies, however, these are the things I like to do periodically: explore digital art, sew, knit/crotchet, read novels, and spending time with my family, and go for nature walks.

What value do you get out of your NKBA membership?
By being an NKBA member I have learned of the factors to consider when designing kitchens and bathrooms. These spaces are important and they make a house to be a functional home.
